Right now being creative seems more important than ever, art needs to stand for something…

Create has always been the word
Create has always been the word

The #365ArtDrops piece goes on, part 101 to 104 we’re left out yesterday, left out before the frankly unbelievable election results started to come in. Hope quickly turned, first to horror and then to a trough of  depression as the reality of what England and Wales had done to themselves (sorry Scotland, we let you down).  Seemingly we’re stupid enough to sleepwalk towards who knows what…

A couple of hours in to the reality of what happened yesterday and well, here’s something I felt compelled to post on social media this morning in the wake of so many depressed posts.  Right now filling a soon to be pulled down East London warehouse with art seems far more important than it was yesterday, leaving art on the streets and engaging with people seems far more important than ever.  I’m certainly pleased I’m not swanning around Venice congratualting myself this morning, art surely has to mean more than that, time to create  .

play_warehouse01At times like this the only thing people can do is pull together, create and survive. THe politics of creativity, create communities, unite and defend those things important to us, look after each other, wise up, challenge in a positive way. Music needs to say something, art needs to be about engagement, about people, about community. The vulnerable are going to be under even more attack now – housing, rent, people will need protection from the greed of landlords, the destruction of the NHS, we’re going to need more food banks, we’re going to to need people looking after each other, real socialism, real unity, real people, at times like these art needs to flourish, it needs to be strong, community needs to be strong, creativity needs to flow, music needs to unite, we need to be strong, we need to look after each other, care about each other, care about our communities, the I’m alright Jack (or Jill) mentality will not do, time for the politics of creativity, time to educate, to question, to create our own medias. feed ourselves, feed minds, feed communities, pull together, it starts right now, time to pull a positive out of all this. UNITE, CREATE AND SURVIVE. .  …

yesterday’s art drops, it all goes on……
