#43ArtDrop, part 12/43 (Dec 2016)

#43ArtDrop, part 12/43 (Dec 2016)

The latest of the 43 paintings that make up the December #43ArtDrop piece, have been left hanging on walls for people to take should they wish to.  Another piece of work in 43 parts, 43 paintings on things found on the street, things found, painted on and then put back on the street, mostly the London streets (and river banks) occasionally out of town.  New life and fresh layers on unwanted thrown out things, fresh growth. Pieces left by London Bridge, by the river, a piece left on a rather colourful East London building, another by a railway bridge in Hackney, and one left outside a railway station in Birmingham, all of them left for people to take, all with the hash tag on the back  so people can engage, this people of work is partly about the engagement and the social media interaction, where do they go? Back in to landfill? Hung on people’s walls? All 43 parts of the piece will be hung out before the year ends, the final #43 piece of a long long year….

#43ArtDrop Part 7, (Dec 2016)

And we see via the magic of Instagram that part 6 of the latest #43ArtDrop piece has been found. I left it hanging on a wall yesterday, one of four that made it out on to the streets yesterday…. The use of the hashtag and the social media interaction is an important part of these pieces, this is what the piece is about, taking things no one wants, old bits of wood thrown in a skip and such, and turning that unwanted thing in to a painting that hopefully people will find some use for…

The 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th parts of the final #43ArtDrop piece of 2016 were left hanging on four walls in East London today, Sunday December 18th.  Four paintings on recycled wood picked up off the London streets, four pieces painted on and then hung back out on the streets for people to take should they wish to. A piece of work in 43 parts, the final part will be hung on a wall before the year ends. 43 paintings on found things, the paintings have to be on found things, fresh growth and fresh layers on things no longer wanted. Each piece marked with #43ArtDrop so people can interact with the piece of work….

#43ArtDrop Part 1/43 (Dec 2016)

The first and second parts of the final #43ArtDrop piece of 2016 have now been left hanging in East London, the first was left on Ridley Road in the dark of Thursday evening, the second hung on a blue wall this Saturday lunch time. Two paintings, the first two of forty-three, left hanging for someone to take should they wish to do so. Once again the pieces are painted on found things picked up off the streets, the paintings must be on recycled pieces of unwanted canvas or wood or packaging whatever people have deemed of no use.  Each one has the #43ArtDrop hashtag on the back so people can interact and get involved in the piece. Finding out what has happened to the paintings is very much part of the piece…

#43 – The final #43 Piece of 2016, A piece of work in 43 parts. 43 parts painted on 43 found recycled pieces of raw material picked up off the streets. Picked up, recycled, upcycled, painted on and hung back out there for people to take should they wish to. The First of the 43 parts will go out on December 15th, the 43rd piece will be hung on New Years Eve. All with the #43ArtDrop hashtag on the back so people can interact and be part of the piece of work. The interaction and people sending in photos of themselves with the found pieces via social media is an important part of these pieces

The final 43 paintings dropped before the end of 2016….

The final #43 piece of 2016, a piece of work in 43 parts. 43 paintings, leaves, golden ones this time, 43 leaves (although some say they see other things), 43 parts of a piece of work left hanging on walls on the streets (mostly London’s walls and streets) and all before 2016 finally comes to an end…

#43 – A piece of work in 43 parts. 43 paintings hung out on the streets for people to take should they wish to. 43 paintings on things found on the street – pieces of wood, discarded canvases – the things we no longer want. Unwanted things reused and put back as 43 pieces of art, 43 paintings hung out (never dropped, always carefully hung), 43 pieces hung out on walls to be taken.

Once again the paintings will be marked on the back with the #43ArtDrop hashtag so that the finders can interact and others can follow the progress of the piece throughout the rest of December. The hashtag and social media interaction has been an important part of these #43 pieces throughout the year (as it was with 2015’s #365ArtDrops piece). Finders are encouraged to post photos on social media of themselves with their found part of the piece and to tell us where the 43 parts of the piece have ended up….

The first of the 43 parts will be hung out on a wall somewhere near BSMT Space gallery (Dalston, London N16) to coincide with the opening of the Gold show at that fine basement gallery on Thursday December 15th. The final part will be hung out on New Year’s Eve.

The 43 parts of the piece will mostly be “dropped” around the streets of London, there is a good chance one or two might appear slightly further afield during the last two weeks of 2016.

Another leaf growing through the gold…..

Gold? Leaves? Fragile? A majestic swan, looking all calm but under the surface feet are kicking and things are happening, shows coming together and plans and…. no Christmas sales here, it is the season to keep a low profile while all around the desperate need to sell sell sell. Most invites to take part in events are being politely turned down until the new year, although outside walls are being put to good use and old nails where things can be hung are being put to good use.  Gold is a show invite I have accepted, mainly because the gallery asked for a particular couple of recent pieces that haven’t been shown yet and I do rather like the gallery and the shows they put on in that space.  Gold happens at BSMT Space, 5d Stoke Newington Road, Dalston, London, N16 8BH. The group show opens on December 15th and runs until the 18th.

A Leaf, East London, November 2016

A Leaf, East London, November 2016

The leaf in the (found) gold frame is another thorny one, 110cm x 75cm, the leaf is now behind glass, it is a leaf in my mind, others see other things, no one is right or wrong. This Autumn has been about leaves, most of the rather productive year has been…
