The careful placing and considered hanging of the “drops” went on….
The #365ArtDrops piece goes on, yesterday on the streets of East London…
The painting hung under bridge last week (see previous entry) turned up in a garden somewhere in England, meanwhile part 182 of the #365ArtDrops piece was painted on a small piece of wood, an off-cut picked up from the rubble of an East London building site. The piece of wood was painted on again and again for a couple of weeks, painted on, and then left hanging yesterday afternoon on the wall of a building on Ezra Street, London E2. It wasn’t there long, the photos of the finder appeared on social media about an hour later. People interacting is such an important part of this on-going year-long piece of work…
On with the carefully placing (and never dropping) of things, #365ArtDrops part 169 to 181, left around East London last week….
“What happened to the one under the bridge?” she asked, what happened indeed? The one left behind the bars on that windowsill just off Redchurch Street, next to the Jimmy C spray paint pointillism was taken rather quickly, or so we learned via comments left on social media, picked up by a London university professor who said he felt a little guilty about taking it – indeed not, they are there to be taken, all I ask is you let me know what has happened to the pieces, either via a direct e.mail or using the hashtag on social media. The ate of the pieces and where they get to is important. So what did happen to part 175, we left it under a bridge in Shoreditch and that was the last we know….

“Salvation” – A piece painted on and in an old frame found thrown in the bin of the Salvation Army charity shop. Painted on the backing board and put behind the glass in the metal frame (72cmx50cm)
Last weekend’s parts of the ongoing #365ArtDrops piece were mostly left around the Hang With Us show at Norlington Road Studios, Leytonstone, London, E10 on the first day of the Leytonstone Arts Trail, that and on the 55 bus home from the trail. Part 151 to 164, a group of smaller pieces on recycled cardboard packaging. Part 165, painted on a found piece of laminated wood and hung on a fence in East London next to a gloriously happy red hollyhock on the evening of July 5th, 2015.
July is here and we’re really into the meat of this year-long #365ArtDrops piece of work now, the 150th piece of the drop was left hanging on a wall in evening sunshine of Redchurch Street, East London yesterday, a bigger piece (80cm x 40cm) painted on a frame found in a skip a couple of years ago. I’m told the piece wasn’t hanging on Rivington Street for long before someone took it, who knows who? Where did it go? Who has it? What has become of it? Some of them hang about, some of them go very quickly, some of them we never hear about again, some we see photos of with the people who find them (which is an important part of it all), sometimes they turn up on ebay, sometimes…. well who knows? Hang on, Stop Press, news, part #150 was taken off the wall by someone called George and now is in Worthing, Sussex, excellent news, thank you George.
Last night four pieces were left around East London, parts 148, 149, 150 and 118. A piece can’t go out until I’m somewhere near happy enough with it, and so part 118 didn’t go out until an extra blue leaf had grown on it, it went out last night, hung on a nail on Rivington Street, Shoreditch next to some Pez smiles (I find myself constantly looking for nails, hooks and such as I walk the streets now). Part 118 and part 150 are both pieces that I’ve been painting new layers on all year, Part 149 was a far more spontaneous painting and found itself a wall that already had some stars to keep it company. I do consider every placement, it isn’t random, been waiting for the greenery to flourish next ot that Roa Rabbit for a couple of months. Where will today’s be? Will it be today? There’s a number of parts (both big and small) ready to go here, maybe today? Maybe tomorrow near the Hang With Us show I shall be taking part in over in Leyton, London E10, (see the events page for more details of that one, lots of artists coming together for a good cause on the opening day of the Leytonstone Arts Trail)

After last weekend’s careful hanging of pieces around Fish Island and Hackney Wick, the #365ArtDrops go on today and this week around London. An important part of this year long piece of work is people using the hashtag and posting photos of themselves with the pieces they find, or photos of where they have chosen to hang the pieces. We’d like to document it all at the end of the year when all 365 parts have been left out.
