Stargrowth, when a frame is left on the street then stars will grow…

Fresh star growth, new layers in a found frame (and when a frame is thrown out and left on the street then things will grow in it). This frame was found on the Hackney street a couple of weeks back, the Spring growth and the new layers have been evolving in the dark of the studio here in East London ever since – “Stargrowth”, acrylic, gloss varnish on recycled hardboard in a found frame, 68cm x 55cm,  (February 2018).

A leaf left hanging on a wall in East London yesterday is now off to San Francisco…

#365ArtDrop18 – 365/9, a leaf left hanging and now found by the person who posted this photo

That piece in the photo up there, that painting, that leaf, those starz, that piece was left hanging on Fashion Street, just off Brick Lane, East London, a couple of weeks back, the photo above appeared on social media a couple of days later. As we keep saying, the photos people post with the pieces they have chosen to take are a big part of this piece of work..

#365ArtDrop18 – 23/365, a leaf left in East London

And I see the 23rd piece, a leaf left hanging on a wall in East London yesterday is now off to San Francisco, that is good news. Ten pieces were left out yesterday, I assume some of them are still out there. The #365ArtDrop18 hash tag is a big part of this year-long piece of work. Of the 27 piece left on the street so far this year, we know that five have been taken and two are still out there, the fate of the rest of them remains unknown. We know that one piece has gone to Belgium, one to the US and three more that we’ve heard or seen that have been taken but we know not where they now live…

The Spring is suggesting she might finally almost be here, the art drop thing was never intended to be daily, just a piece of work in 365 parts that will hopefully go on throughout the year.

Another piece left under another bridge…

sw_365artdrop18_17_4

#365ArtDrop18 – 365/16, a leaf left in East London

Another #365ArtDrop18 piece – 16/365 – A leaf painted, the 16th of 365 artdrop pieces that, all being well, will happen in 2018, a 16th piece painted on and in a recycled found frame, a small red frame that had a photo in it and the glass still intact when I found it and pulled out of a skip and hopefully rescued from landfill. The frame is now black, the glass cleaned up, a leaf has grown inside it and…. And last night it was left hanging on a wall under another bridge in East London, left there on the way home from a rather impressive Lennie Lee exhibition, left hanging next to a Thierry Noir piece for someone to take should they wish to. The hashtag is on the back, will it be taken? Will the hashtag be used? Will it find a home or will it end up in landfill anyway? The hashtag is important, we would like to know where these pieces go, I believe part five is now somewhere in Belgium?

#365ArtDrop18 – 365/10, a leaf left in East London

Part ten, a pieces painted on a block of wood, was left under a different railway bride a few days back, part fourteen was left by a cash machine in East London on the same day. Part thirteen, fifteen and seventeen are still in my bag waiting for the right time and place, there’s a couple of dozen finished pieces waiting to be numbered here in the studio, waiting for the spring to kick in and weather to be more in line with the notion of hanging art out on the street without it being blown away.  I anticipate an outburst of drops as soon as Spring arrives (I can’t move in my studio).

The art of dropping art, the latest parts of a year-long piece of work…

The art of dropping, the ongoing notion of (another) year-long piece of art in 365 parts, 365 paintings on things found on the street, things recycled, reclaimed, saved from landfill, used as a canvas, painted on, and then left back out there, hung back out there on the street for people to take should they wish to.  And as we’ve said before, people taking part, posting photos of themselves with their found pieces is a big part of this piece of work that, all being well, will go on throughout the year.  Today several pieces were carefully places (never dropped) around East London – 365 will go out this year, that doesn’t mean one a day,  today six were left out there, tomorrow there might be more, they’ve been building up here in the studio waiting for decent weather…
