Thinking aloud, recent paintings, the real ones, not the throwaway pop art things…

Sean Worrall – “You Might Recall” – acrylic on found plywood, 70cm x 29cm (June 2018)

Busy clearing up, sorting out, making sense, making no sense. clearing out. The notion of a painting concluded every day goes on, day 543 today, a painting on a wooden cherry box, and this year’s art drops go on, about 120 so far this year, I expect there will be quite a few more this weekend – smaller paintings on found material, but this isn’t really what I really do as a painter/artist, Someone said to me the other day, another artist actually, that they thought the daily conclusions and the art drops were all I did, that they though I was all about mass producing leaf tags with spray paint, bits of pop art mass production on old bits of wood, that and leaving things on the street. No mostly I slowly paint bigger paintings, pieces that slowly evolve over the months, sometimes years that I then surround myself with while I run out of space….at the moment painting the series of star paintings is what I do, the rest of it, the art drops and such, all that stuff is just throwaway. Take no notice, I’m just thinking aloud… and not that i think anything I do is throwaway….

…a piece of wood picked up off the Hackney street,  and when a piece of wood has been thrown out then fresh layers will grow on that piece of wood…

A new piece that’s been evolving in the studio over the last few weeks, fresh layers, new growth, a painting on a piece of found wood, a piece of wood picked up off the Hackney street,  and when a piece of wood has been thrown out then fresh layers will grow on that piece of wood.

Rather looks like Saturday might be a good day to be over in Hackney Wick and down by the water in the sunshine at Grow Hackney on Saturday for the DIY Art and Vinyl art market thing that’s happening in conjunction with Vinyl Pimp. I shall be bringing along some of the more recently hand painted vinyl pieces as well as some customised record sleeves that I’ve painted on that still has some perfectly good vinyl inside and just maybe a slice of vinyl or two that originally came wrapped in some of my artwork when it originally came out back there (haven’t done a record sleeve for anyone for ages, it was quite a buzz walking into a record shop and seeing one of your paintings in a record rack, never quite the same seeing your work on a CD cover, never ever got much of a buzz from doing that and seeing it is shop, loved painting album covers though, don’t think anyone ever worked out that if you got out all your Atom Seed Ones they joined up). Anyway, Saturday afternoon, we’ll be down by the water celebrating Record Store Day. The Facebook event page

Stars, starz, 43 Starz…

Starz, 43 of them, and the ongoing notion in 2017 of a painting  brought to a completed conclusion on every single day of the year. 43 starz painted on a piece of wood. The latest daily pieces can be viewed here,  The on-going notion of a smaller painting brought to a completed conclusion on every single day of the year, some of them have been hung in galleries, some left hanging on the street for people to take should the wish to, some are available via the on-line shop, some have gone to new homes around the world, some are just hanging around in the studio.  Today is day 228, a 228th painting, a painting on a paint brush, is over there drying. The 43 Starz piece was the 226th piece of the year, a painting completed and brought to a conclusion on the 226th day of the year, that doesn’t mean it was started on the 226th day…
