The sky beyond that church in Hackney, that lime from Well Street, one last piece of fruit, maybe…

“The Lime From Well Street” (December 2019) Acrylic on canvas, 15cm x 20cm

Been rather hard to paint this week with the way the election went, with the disappointment, the lack of compassion show, the ongoing matter of painting fruit seems a little futile right now, I did paint a lime before the election result came in, I did paint that church in Hackney again the day before the election. “The Lime From Well Street” (December 2019) Acrylic on canvas, 15cm x 20cm, a lime painted on an old canvas, fresh layers painted on an old painting that was still here, another still-life fruit study just for the pleasure of it, a canvas from 2017 that needed to be painted on. A painting is never really finished until someone takes it away, I see my canvases in the same way you might view a wall in an area where street art constantly happens, if the paintings are still here in my studio then they might just evolve without any real warning. I spend a lot of time looking at paintings here.. Almost a year of painting fruit now, this might be the last one for a bit, really not sure what happens next. The lime will head from the Cultivate on-line shop later today…

“Elephant” (December 2019) – Acrylic on canvas, 20cm x 20cm

“Elephant” (December 2019) – Acrylic on canvas, 20cm x 20cm. This one was painted over the weekend, it was painted for someone, I don’t often paint for other people, I don’t really do requests or commissions that often, occasionally I do when it interests me and I want to do it, I kind of needed to do it this weekend, while I look at this big blank white canvas on my easel. Got to do a lot of thinking about the whys of painting right now…

“London Skyline – St.John Of Moulins Road, E9 (No. 2)” – December 2019 – Acrylic on canvas, 20cm x 20cm

“London Skyline – St.John Of Moulins Road, E9 (No. 2)” – December 2019 – Acrylic on canvas, 20cm x 20cm, the sky was crisp and blue above the spire the other morning when I painted this latest Skyline painting.. The ongoing matter of looking up or looking beyond, There’s something special about the church and the space around it here in Hackney, especially on a crisp day. I’ve painted it twice now in the last couple of weeks (the first painting has gone off to hang on a wall in Los Angeles now). The church is actually called St John of Jerusalem, the painting was made from Moulins Road this week, the first one was painted from the same point a few days earlier..
