The ongoing matter of stripes, new paintings that have emerged and evolved in the last couple of weeks
The ongoing matter of stripes, new paintings that have emerged and evolved in the last couple of weeks. Some of this goes back to my textile days of the last century, that and trying to weave, some of it is just enjoying paint and layers and loading a brush and exploring via the matter of a daily Ten painting. The pure enjoymemt of paint, of using paint, of layer over layer…
“Any Questions?” (Sept 2020) Acrylic on canvas, 20cm x 50cm.
“Any Questions?” (Sept 2020) Acrylic on canvas, 20cm x 50cm. A new painting that has been evolving over the last few weeks and finished yesterday. The title refers to a tale of a performance by a band called Talking Heads, and a question posed by David Byrne as he left the stage, a tale told by the other Sean. I never did get on with weaving, weaving really does require two eyes if you are to avoid all the knots and the loom chaos.
“Paint” (Sept 2020) – Acrylic on deep edge canvas, 30cm x 30cm x 4cm.
“Paint” started before “Any Questions?”, they were both finished together, “Paint” (Sept 2020) – Acrylic on deep edge canvas, 30cm x 30cm x 4cm. A painting that’s been evolving in the studio over the last few weeks and concluded yesterday with a touch of Cadmium Yellow. The dynamic changes as the size of canvas changes. I like where these Ten paintings are taking me, the way they are making me think about painting.
