43s, car parks, 199 daily paintings and…

The ongoing notions of daily paintings throughout the year, fresh leaf growth and things that revolve around the number 43 (that one down there happened in a car park in Liverpool a couple of years back).  There’s been 199 daily paintings now, this being the 199th day of the year, some of them have been seen hanging on gallery walls, some left on the street for people to take, some sold on-line (all 199 can be seen on this page) , some saved for a show later this year. It isn;t about starting and finishing a piece every day, it is about bringing one to a conclusion and every day on the year…

Car parks and 43s were not something deliberate, well not when it started, they might be now, that and #43ArtDrops like the one that happened at Hackney Wicked last year, the recent #43ArtDrop that happened recently on the Leytonstone Arts Trail and the 43 Miniature canvas pieces at the Art Car Boot Fair a couple of weeks back.  I imagine the number 43 might figure again at Hackney WickEd this year as well as September’s Folkestone leg of the 2017 Art Car Boot Fair….

The Chinese Open, more art drops, dogs, leaves, broken frames, brutalist car parks….

chinopen_sean7 This week just gone was mostly about the 2015 Chinese Open and what has now really come to feel like the event that marks the start of the London art year.  This year it was a one day event, back to Q.Park again, Chinatown, Soho, London. I do love shows in brutalist car parks, there’s some words and photos of the whole event over the Organ pages, here’s some trumpet blowing images of my part in the event both inside and outside.  The idea of leaf growth inside a concrete car park, of things reclaimed, revived, brought back to life, cultivated, grown on….

Inside it was an installation made up of things painted on, found recycled pieces of packing cases, pieces of astro turf (dogs love astro turf!), broken frames, the paint can, recycled cardboard, all put together… Outside it was on with the #365ArtDrops and a piece hanging on the wall while the Chinese Open Celebrations took place….

The year of the car park, growth left in Liverpool and…

Some growth left in a car park in Liverpool (it was there before Mr Turk parked his car), 2014 has mostly been about car parks, car parks have been far more exciting in terms of art venues and exciting events than the more “conventional” galleries. Rather pleased to say it looks like it will carry on with the 2015 Chinese Open happening down on Level minus seven of that gloriously brutal underground multistory car park in Soho, deepest West End of London. All happens in February 2015, more about it closer to the date…
