One piece of work in 365 parts, a year-long piece of work and the notion, once more, of 365 pieces carefully dropped…

#365ArtDrop18 5/365 – A leaf left, the 5th of 365 artdrop pieces of 2018

One piece of work in 365 parts, a year-long piece of work and the notion, once more, of 365 pieces carefully dropped.  365 things picked up off the street, things saved from skips, piece of wood, frames, unwanted canvas, pieces of vinyl too scratched to play, and when things like that are thrown out then leaves will grow on them.  Another 365 Paintings on things found, things recycled, painted on, and then left back out there on the street again for people to take should they wish to.

A #365ArtDrop piece from 2016 found

This year the hashtag on the back of the pieces is #365ArtDrop18 and once again as it was with the year-long piece in 2016 the hashtag is there for people to engage with the piece of work. Once again people are encouraged to post photos of themselves with the pieces they choose to take, encouraged to post on social media and use the hashtag, we’re looking to see where the pieces have got to this time and the photos of people with their pieces are very much part of the year-long piece again .  In 2016, pieces left most in London ended up hanging on walls in homes, bars, galleries and more all over the globe.  Why do it again? Well why not? the 365ArtDrop piece is 2016 was extremely rewarding, engaging, I found it exciting, I think others did as well, the e.mails and message suggest to us they did. There’s a certain pleasure to be found in hanging art on the street rather then in a gallery, why only do it once?

This year’s piece is under way then, pieces are being hung, never dropped, always carefully hung, placed, it isn’t one piece a day, it might be that several “drops” happen on a particular day and then nothing for a week, we’re not going to leave pieces out in the win and rain, I expect an outburst of pieces out there once winter starts to finally give way to spring, there’s a build up of pieces painted in January waiting for a decent day when they can be hung out with being blown away.  Some of the pieces will be newly painted pieces, some of the drops might be paintings from last year, some will have been painted on the same day that they’re dropped, all will have been painted on material picked up from the street, material recycled, things that were heading for landfill.  A year-long piece of work then, a piece of work in 365 parts, please do use the hashtag, the engagement is an important part of this piece….

Fresh growth, new layers, leaves and the ongoing notion of a smaller painting brought to a completed conclusion on every single day of 2017 continues with…

sw_daily_318_331_1

Some of the recently concluded daily paintings (late November 2017)

Fresh growth, new layers, leaves and the ongoing notion of a smaller painting brought to a completed conclusion on every single day of 2017 continues with a piece being brought to conclusion on every day of the year. December is upon us now and painting 338 is over there awaiting conclusion before this day comes to an end, it could be one of several pieces that is brought to a conclusion, this is not about starting a smaller painting on every day, just bring one to a completed conclusion, there are many on the go here in the studio.  You can view all the concluded painting up until number 331 here on this page.

The most recent pieces are all painted on recycled cardboard, all around 21cm x 21cm. Will this continue beyond the end of the year?

Meanwhile, painting number twelve, one of the earliest from this year-log series (that may just continue beyond the end of 2017), one of the earlies that hasn’t been sold or hung on the the street, one of the earliest I still have, has been donated to APP’s 2017 Art Auction, the charity are doing a bit of fundraising, there’s more details here or go directly to the ebay auction here, last time I looked the bidding had only just started so, well, over to you…   APP or Action on Postpartum Psychosis is a charity researching Postpartum Psychosis  (PP) is “a severe, but treatable, form of mental illness that occurs after having a baby. It can happen ‘out of the blue’ to women without previous experience of mental illness”.

There really is no satisfaction to be found in a day that doesn’t involve some kind of drawing or painting….

sw_day258_2

Daily Painting 258/365 (15th September,2017) – Fresh growth, new layers, leaves and the ongoing notion of a smaller painting brought to a completed conclusion on every single day of 2017. On day 258, a 258th piece, acrylic, brushwork, marker pen, gloss varnish on a found recycled piece of hardboard, 43cm x 43cm

The ongoing notion of a smaller painting brought to a completed conclusion on every single day of 2017. A notion that started on the very first day of January, not a painting started and finished every single day, more a painting brought to a completed conclusion every day. There are several smaller pieces being painted on any given day alongside the bigger paintings that are constantly being worked on

Work in progress, September 2017

There are always pieces in progress and paintings in need of being brought to a conclusion and there really is no satisfaction to be found in a day that doesn’t involve some kind of drawing or painting….

Leaves, thorns, sometimes they have thorns. New layers, fresh growth, the latest daily paintings…

sw_8canvas_sept2017_4

Leaves, thorns, sometimes they have thorns, new layers, fresh growth, or maybe just a tag evolving, or maybe some pop art or some starz flying? Starz with a “z” and the glam rock of it all? Or the hard rock of it all and the fact that you have to rock six times, pop art, leaf growth and the notion of a small painting brought to a completed conclusion on every single day of 2017 that started back on the first day of January just because it seemed like a good idea to force a painting to conclusion. It does still feel like a decent notion at the start of September….

cultivate_shop_4sept2017

Some of the recent daily pieces can be found on sale via the Cultivate on-line shop, and yes those are deliberately reasonable prices, I do rather think these things should be kept as reasonable as possible
