A Pomegranate From Somewhere in East London (2020) – Acrylic, gloss varnish on canvas, 40cm x 40cm – I think it came from Broadway Market, the pomegranate I mean. I painted this one earlier this year, well I had been painting on this canvas for several years, different layers at different times, stargrowth that grew on top of stargrowth until the original layer could almost no longer be seen, I finished it months ago now, unless that is something starts growing on it again, a painting is never quite finished until someone takes it away – if I’m being honest about it, this painting was kind of lost underneath the many paintings that are here fighting for attention inthe studio. I dug it out, gave it a coat of vatnish and added it to my page at the 2020 on-line version of Art Car Boot Fair yesterday, it sold straight away (I’m rather pleased to say), so yes the painting is now finished and it has left the building.

I did add another couple of older paintings to the Art Car Boot Fair for the final weekend, including thos one, another Fruit Shop painting from last year – The Hackney Wick Pomegranate and the Well Street Lemon (August 2019) – The ongoing matter of East London fruit, still-life studies just for the pleasure of it. Acrylic on wooden board in found oval frame under glass and ready to hang, 35cm x 45cm.
