“Daffodils, Miss Smith” (Feb 2022) – Acrylic on canvas, 30cm x 30cm x 1cm
The ongoing matter of Daffodils and some new paintings that emerged at the end of February 2022. Part of my Welsh upbringing and Miss Smith who was a wonderful primary school teacher in a small village called Roscolyn on the island of Anglesey. Miss Smith would insist we all brought 5p in to pay for a daffodil bulb that each pupil would plant in their own pot and put in a dark cupboard until late January and then out they’d all come for Spring. I always feel a need to draw and paint daffodils in the spring, they always feel like positive hopeful things as they open out and take a look around. it did seem particularly important this year with the two Welsh art shows, at Storiel Gallery in Bangor and at the London Welsh Centre here in London that I was more than pleased to be invited to take part in. Daffodils are rather special things.
