Neat Neat Neat, the now occasional series of Electric Paintings goes on…

Neat Neat Neat – Electric Painting No.35  (May 2023) – Acrylic on canvas, 20x20x1cm

The now occasional series of Electric Paintings goes on, I was painting a lot of these this time last year, I had toyed with the idea of an exhibition, but no, the idea of having to do them kind of took something away from the paintings. Now a painting just happens when the moment grabs. I Painted the interpretation of Jeff Beck’s Ola back on the night he died back at the start of the year and the Soul Time piece a few weeks ago. A Little Man – Electric Painting No. 34 emerged a couple of days ago and today I painted the Damned Damned Damned piece. This is a series of fast interpretations of album covers painted during the time it takes to play the album (very loudly) just once. That’s it, just once, when the album ends the painting must end as well.

The series started last Summer with the AC/DC cover painted ahead of last year’s Electric edition of the Art Car Boot Fair, you can see all the paintings here, it evolved through yes albums, Black Sabbath covers, Wire, The Pop Group and quite a few more.

Soul Time – Electric Painting No. 33 (May 2023) Acrylic on canvas, 20x20x1cm

The Soul Time painting, Soul Time – Electric Painting No. 33 (May 2023), was slight different, not an interpretation of an Electric album cover this time, more a fast painting while listening to Shirley Ellis and her classic piece of Northern Soul, that and Tony Clark’s Landslide, The Night and while The M.V.Ps were Turning My Heartbeat Up and listening to the crash of cymbals, painted while listening to a playlist of Northern Soul I put together, go have a listen if you wish, Whatever happened to Steve Soul anyway? And if you have any idea what did happen to Steve or indeed his mate and mine Richie Mod, I’d love to know

A Little Man – Electric Painting No. 34 (May 2023) – Acrylic on canvas, 20x20x1cm

A Little Man – Electric Painting No. 34 (May 2023) – Well this one was overdue, there was a lot of emotion involved of course (as those who know some of the Organ history with Cardiacs and Tim will just know). This one was painted a couple days ago, people kept asking if I was going to paint a Cardiacs album cover for the series and I kept putting it off or avoiding it and it just felt right to do it a couple of days ago. That really is how I’m treating this series now, just do another one now and again when it feels right. Painting that Cardiacs piece made me want to do something that would be painted with a little more freedom, needed to follow it up, so piece called Neat Neat Neat was painted earlier today

Neat Neat Neat – Electric Painting No.35 (May 2023) – Acrylic on canvas, 20x20x1cm – The 35th part of a now occasional but still ongoing (when I feel like it) series. Fast interpretations of album covers painting during the time it takes to play the album (very loudly) just once. Just over 30 minutes in this case, put it on, get in the zone, punk rock painting if you like, neat neat neat, bang bang bang, nowhere near perfect but it was never meant to be. it is very much about ending the painting when the album ends, the only thing added afterwards in the “S” signature.

I imagine there will be a 36th painting at some point, who knows, there is no reason to painting another and that is the best reason… You can see all the paintings here
