“The Camden Pomegranate” (June 2019), the ongoing matter of fruit, still life studies, quick paintings. Acrylic on canvas, 20 x 20cm
The fruit is still ripening, ripeness is all, summer is in the air, more apples, more pomegranates, more limes and tangerines, there is no reason for it, there’s no reason to stop it, just the pure enjoyment of painting red peppers, still life studies for no other reason that the fact that I’m rather enjoying painting bits of fruit. I thought it might stop after the Fruit Shop show at Shipton Street Gallery back in April, but no, the Fruit Shop will reappear at this year’s Art Car Boot Fair on Sunday June 23rd (Kings Cross, London N1) and it may well appear again later on in the summer. There’s a lot of painting going on at the moment, there’s always rather a lot of painting going on, larger paintings in production, smaller daily conclusions on recycled cardboard, paintings for the ongoing #43Leaves piece – a piece of work in 43 parts, 43 paintings on found recycled material ahead of the Art Car Boot Fair, each painting on sale only on the day at a price of £5 per piece.

“An Apple Or A Pizza (May 2019) – the ongoing matter of fruit, quick still life studies, paintings of fruit. This one on an unwanted piece of hypocritical junkmail that arrived in the post a few days back. Is their anything my cynically hypocritical that a glossy flyer in the post with a recycle logo printed on it!? I’ve never ordered a takeaway pizza in my life, I’ve never been anywhere near Domino Pizza so why are they sending me junkmail and why is my address printed on it? Don’t be telling me to recycle Domino Pizza! How much paper did you just waste? This one did get recycled though, this one has an apple painted on it I did mention what an offensive waste it was to Domino, they didn’t respond, they’ll probably send me another flyer in a week or two, I don’t expect I shall ever order a takeaway pizza
This yea the theme of the Art Car Boot Fair is Love, something to do with it being fifty years on from the original summer of love, I can’t honest say I’m feeling the summer of love vibe but I have painted on a number of leaf-shaped canvases especially for the day, you can see whatever you want, no one is right or wrong, I don’t paint hearts, i did paint these three pieces especially for the day though, I will paint one more before the day…
