The latest rather weather-hit #43Leaves pieces that started and should have ended) at last month’s Deptford X. You really can’t be hanging piece of art on walls outside when there’s high winds and rain, there were 17 left after Deptford, there are now 14, three more have been left hanging since, two were left hanging on the walls in Hackney Wick last week, one down towards the Limehouse Cut here in East London. For those who don’t know, a #43Leaves piece is a piece of work in 43 parts, 43 paintings on found unwanted #recycle material, material picked up off the streets, cleaned up, painted on and then left hanging back out there for people to just take.should they wish to do so.
Last week a leaf, one of 43 paintings that make up the latest #43Leaves piece, was left hanging by the Lord Napier over in Hackney Wick and there they were painting off the bit about the penthouse… End of another era. Kind of sad to see the Penthouse bit going, I should write a piece about it for Organ . First time I encountered the Lord Napier was on the way to a Motorhead gig at Hackney Speedway track, a rather eventful all day open air gig policed by the Hells Angels, that was way way back in another lifetime, a previous century. I’ve left leaves on the old derelict pub on many occasions over the last dozen or so years, went there to do it one more time before the pub reopened, and decided in the end not to do so, instead I opted for a leaf left hanging on the wall over the road. 14 more to go before the piece is concluded…
