The ongoing matter of painting on the covers of found books, this time Irish writer William Trevor anda copy of his novel Bodily Secrets. A Penguin papervack edittion, part of their Great Loves series from the 1990s. The book of course is still intact and perfectly readable…
A 1972 reprint, a Penguin edition of Alexander Solzheniysyn’s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. I don’t know why anyone would throw a book in a skip and, as was the case with the other found books that have been painted on so far in this (ongoing) series I couldn’t possibly leave it there all unwanted The book is of course still readable, the inside is all intact. The now fifty year old publication is slightly yellowing, the pages are all delightfully intact. I’ve painted on the front paper cover, acrylic, ink, gloss varnish, a little darker this time, welll considering the book’s subject matter, It is signed with an ‘s’ on the front and signed in full on the inside, there’s a short note about it on the inside back cover.
A 1995 reprint of a 1967 Penguin edition of William Shakespear’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a copy of J.G Ballard’s rather excellent Crash that I actually sold at last weekend’s Art Car Boot Fair to a girl who said it was a present for her girlfriend who was obsessed by the book. I did ask her if her girlfriend could drive, she said yes, I hope she’s okay…
